KCPA Projected Digital Image Competition 2011
“Annual DPI Competition” doesn’t quite have the ring to it as, say, the “Ross Cup” or “Diamond Jubilee Trophy”, nevertheless this year’s competition attracted some 651 entries from 127 competitors. = 26 Clubs So, quite a task for the judge!
The hosts this year were Seaford Photographic Society, a club whose home base must be the furthest of all the East Sussex clubs from Kent. Despite this a willing bunch of some 20members, ably led by their chairman Mike Grimes, set to and organised the event which this year was held at Detling. It was not a one man show as all the club officials had roles to play and the rest of us were available to help out on the day.
To help finance the event we approached several potential sponsors and were astounded to be given the latest A3+ printer by Epson, the £660 R3000, to use to raise funds. Such generosity in the current difficult financial climate was very much appreciated. But other sponsors were quick to help out and we were able to organise 2 separate raffles, one for the printer, the other for the other donations.
On the day, 27 November, the hosts catered for 100 attendees, as it was , we had 101 visitors – a very pleasing result indeed. The show started with a run-through of all the entries and finally the winners were announced in the second half.
The task of getting in the entries, sorting them and sending them of to the judge was given to Tim King who was able to get everything in to his strict deadlines. the judge for the competition was Carole Speight ARPS, DPAGB, APAGB from Chichester Camera Club. It took her 3 weeks to complete the task, a marathon session by any standard and her reasons for her choices were succinct and insightful.
The winner of the on-line paper trophy (actually it was silver!) was “Long-tailed Tit in Spring” by Sheila Sargent
